E9 High-stage pressure switch will not close

Medium severity Goodman/Amana *MVC95/*CVC9 two-stage ComfortNet

What the control is telling you

On a call for high heat the high-stage pressure switch does not close. The furnace keeps running on low stage only.

Applies to: GMVC95/AMVC95 upflow and *CVC9 counterflow two-stage furnaces

Likely causes

  • Pressure switch hose blocked, pinched or on the wrong port
  • Blocked vent or intake pipe
  • Blocked drain
  • Weak inducer
  • Wrong switch set point or bad switch
  • Loose or wrong wiring

Test and repair steps

  1. Safety turn power off before working on the control or wiring.
  2. Check the switch hose and taps.
  3. Check the vent and intake pipes for blockage, length, elbows and termination.
  4. Check the drain trap and lines.
  5. Check inducer performance.
  6. Check the wiring, then replace the switch or inducer with the correct part if needed.
