E5 Control fuse open

Medium severity Goodman/Amana *MVC95/*CVC9 two-stage ComfortNet

What the control is telling you

The 3 A fuse on the control board is blown, usually from a short in the 24 V wiring. A ComfortNet thermostat runs on battery power and shows Battery Power.

Applies to: GMVC95/AMVC95 upflow and *CVC9 counterflow two-stage furnaces

Likely causes

  • Short in the low voltage wiring (thermostat, outdoor unit, accessories)

Test and repair steps

  1. Safety turn power off before working on the control or wiring.
  2. Find the short in the 24 V wiring first: thermostat cable, outdoor unit wires, humidifier or other add-ons.
  3. Replace the fuse with a 3 A automotive type fuse only.
