High severity Goodman/Amana *MVC95/*CVC9 two-stage ComfortNet

What the control is telling you

The control found a problem in the igniter circuit. Furnace will not run. ComfortNet thermostat shows IGNITER FAULT E7.

Applies to: GMVC95/AMVC95 upflow and *CVC9 counterflow two-stage furnaces

Likely causes

  • Igniter wiring loose or wrong
  • Shorted igniter
  • Poor unit ground
  • Igniter relay failed on the control

Test and repair steps

  1. Safety turn power off before working on the control or wiring.
  2. Check the wiring from the control to the igniter.
  3. Check the igniter resistance. Replace a shorted igniter with the correct part.
  4. Check the furnace ground wiring.
  5. If wiring, igniter and ground are good, check for igniter voltage from the control. No output = replace the control.
