About HVACopedia

Built by working HVAC technicians in Ontario.

HVACopedia is a field reference for heating, cooling and ventilation technicians. It started as the notes we kept for ourselves on service calls: what an error code usually means, what to check first, which part fits which model, and the numbers we had to look up every time. We put those notes in one place, cleaned them up and made them searchable from a phone, so the next technician does not have to dig through a manual in a cold basement.

What you will find here

Error codes for furnaces, boilers, tankless water heaters, heat pumps and more, each with the likely causes and the test steps in order. Parts matched to the models they fit, with OEM numbers. Tech tips such as service modes, access codes and button combinations. Troubleshooting guides for problems that do not show a code. And calculators and reference tables for gas piping, superheat and subcooling, airflow, electrical and refrigerant pressure-temperature charts.

How the content is written

Every entry is written in our own words from service experience, manufacturer documentation and standard trade practice. We review new entries before they are published and mark what is verified in the field. If you find a mistake or know a better fix, use the report function in the app or email us; we read every report.

The app

The same library is available as the HVACopedia app, which works offline and lets technicians send field reports and photos. The web app is open now; the iPhone and Android versions are coming to the App Store and Google Play.

Independence

HVACopedia is independent. We are not affiliated with any manufacturer, and brand and model names are used only to identify the equipment. Nothing here replaces the manufacturer's manual or local codes: for gas, electrical and refrigerant work, those and the licensed technician's judgement always take priority.

Who we are

HVACopedia is made by Hvacopedia Tech Inc. in Vaughan, Ontario, by technicians who still work in the field every week. Questions, corrections and partnership ideas are welcome: contact us or email [email protected]. Suppliers and manufacturers can read more on the partners page.
