E0 Lockout - ignition failed 3 times
What the control is telling you
The furnace tried to light three times in one call for heat and gave up. A ComfortNet thermostat shows LOCKOUT E0 and a Call for Service icon. The control resets itself after one hour.
Applies to: GMVC95/AMVC95 upflow and *CVC9 counterflow two-stage furnaces
Likely causes
- No gas to the burners or gas supply interrupted
- Front cover pressure switch stuck open or opening during the run
- Bad igniter or igniter out of position
- Wrong orifices
- Dirty, oxidized or loose flame sensor
- Lazy flame from wrong gas pressure or a restricted vent / intake pipe
- Weak inducer
Test and repair steps
- Safety gas work by a licensed gas technician only. Shut the gas off before opening any gas fitting.
- Reset cut 115 V power, or drop the thermostat below room temp for 1-20 seconds and turn it back up. It also resets on its own after 1 hour.
- Confirm gas is on at the meter and the furnace shutoff, and watch a full trial for ignition.
- Check the front cover pressure switch hose, wiring and that the contacts actually close.
- Check the igniter glows and sits in the right spot. Replace or realign it. Do not touch the element with bare fingers.
- Read the flame signal. If the sensor is coated, clean it with emery cloth.
- Check the vent and intake pipes for blockage, length, elbow count and termination.
- Check inducer performance.
- If it locks out again with the same cause still there, it will go straight back to E0.
