Condensate trap cleaning
What is going on
Clean the condensate trap and confirm condensate flow after reassembly.
Likely causes
- Sediment in the condensate trap or hose
- Restriction in the condensate drain line
Check in this order
- Close the manual gas shutoff valve and remove power to the unit.
- Remove the front door panel.
- Remove the flue gas inlet plug from the condensate trap. Do not pull hoses down away from their upper connections. Keep the silicone hose secured to the plug.
- Unthread the retaining nut and disconnect the corrugated condensate hose from the trap outlet.
- Unthread the inlet cap from the trap.
- Remove the trap from the unit.
- Clean the trap and hose with water. Check the lower connection port for sediment. The float can be removed for cleaning if needed.
- Reinstall the trap, connect the hose to the trap outlet, and thread the inlet cap and retaining nut.
- Fill the trap three-quarters full with water through the flue gas inlet. Check all connections for leaks. Refit the flue gas inlet plug.
- Reinstall the front door panel.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
