Condensate drain installation
What is going on
Route condensate to a drain properly so the boiler does not shut down or the trap does not fail.
Likely causes
- Frozen or blocked drain line causes condensate to back up into the combustion chamber.
- Corrosive condensate attacks metal drains and sewer pipes.
Check in this order
- Do not run condensate lines outdoors.
- Do not use copper, steel or galvanized pipe for the condensate disposal system.
- Use the supplied 3/4 in I.D. corrugated hose to connect the trap to the drain. Extend it with poly or vinyl tubing if needed.
- Check local rules on whether condensate must be neutralized before disposal.
- If a condensate pump is needed, select one designed for condensate.
- Do not replace the factory condensate trap with another trap.
- Keep the trap secure to the bottom of the boiler with no strain on it.
- Keep the drain line away from areas that leaking condensate could damage.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
