Upflow furnace with cased coil attachment

UH1/DH1

What is going on

Before you set a factory cased coil on a Trane UH1 upflow furnace, read the installer's guide and gather the standoffs and screws that came with the coil. The coil mounts to the top flanges of the furnace and always sits downstream of the furnace airflow. Shut off power and gas to the furnace while you work.

Likely causes

  • Not a fault call. This is a mounting procedure for an upflow furnace with a cased coil.

Check in this order

  1. Use the standoffs and screws included with the cased coil, and do not substitute hardware.
  2. Locate the clearance alignment holes near the bottom of the coil wrapper.
  3. Insert each standoff into the cabinet alignment hole.
  4. Drive the drill screws through the standoffs and into the furnace top flange.
  5. Confirm the coil sits square and the joint between coil and furnace is tight.
  6. Seal any gaps per the installer's guide so conditioned air does not leak.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
