Trane · Furnace troubleshooting
Two pipe venting configurations (same pressure zone)
What is going on
Two pipe venting on the Trane. The manual only shows its configurations for the case where both terminations sit in the same pressure zone. Out of that, you are off the drawing.
Likely causes
- Vent and inlet terminations in different pressure zones
- Termination layout different from the manual figures
- Pipe runs mixed up between exhaust and inlet
Check in this order
- Confirm both the vent and inlet terminations are in the same pressure zone.
- Use the configuration shown in the manual figures. Read the figure on the printed manual itself for the layout.
- Check termination clearances to openings and each other.
- If the terminations cannot share a zone, get the layout reviewed before installing.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
