Rotate the furnace 180 and prepare the blower shelf and jacket (downflow steps 5-7)

96V96MDV

What is going on

Steps shown with the furnace in downflow orientation. The junction box and door switch must be moved for the flue pipe, so follow the electrical wiring section for those.

Check in this order

  1. Rotate the unit 180 degrees.
  2. Remove the knockouts with a hammer and flat head screwdriver.
  3. Pre-drill 2 holes of 1/8 in in the blower shelf for the flue pipe assembly.
  4. Pre-drill 3 holes of 1/8 in in the jacket for the condensate trap.
  5. Relocate the junction box and door switch. See the electrical wiring section.
  6. Re-install the elbow and couplings from step 1 in the orientation shown.
  7. Remove the 0.403 in drain plug from the elbow drain port and discard it.
  8. Install the 1/2 in yellow vinyl cap on the inducer coupling. Leave the coupling clamps loose until step 10.
  9. Install hose G on the collector box. Let the open end hang free until step 10.
  10. If the IDB coupling was removed, put it back with its exhaust-flow arrow pointing the correct direction.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
