Remove bottom panel for horizontal or bottom return installs
What is going on
These Allied A95UH, A93UH, 95G1UH and 92G1UH furnaces come with a bottom panel already fitted. I have seen guys set the furnace on a bottom return plenum with the panel still in place and then wonder why it starves for air. If you are using bottom return, in either horizontal or upflow, the panel has to come out before the furnace goes in.
Likely causes
- Bottom panel left in place on a bottom return install
- Panel forgotten because it ships installed
- Furnace already set and ducted before anyone noticed the panel
Check in this order
- Remove the bottom panel before setting the unit in horizontal or upflow installs with bottom return air.
- Check the return opening is open and clear once the unit is in position.
- After startup, confirm the temperature rise is normal as a check that the return air is not restricted.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
