Post-conversion checklist
What is going on
This is the walk-around before you close up a field conversion on a Rheem 96V or 96MDV. Most call-backs I see after conversions are a kinked hose or a drain that holds water, so go slow on these. Confirm each item against the printed page in the installation instructions.
Likely causes
- Not a fault call. Final checklist after a field conversion.
Check in this order
- Review the conversion steps once more against the manual.
- Verify all hoses are secured and fully seated.
- Confirm all hoses are free of kinks.
- Confirm the condensate plumbing slopes in the direction of water flow.
- Confirm all drain ports are plugged.
- Confirm all clamps and couplings are tightened.
- Confirm the unit has forward pitch.
- Run it and watch for condensate leaks.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
