Moving the line voltage junction box to the other side

96V96MDV

What is going on

Only do this with the furnace disconnected from line voltage. The door switch moves with the junction box.

Check in this order

  1. Make sure the furnace is not connected to line voltage.
  2. Disconnect the wires from the door switch.
  3. Remove the two screws holding the junction box; leave its wires connected.
  4. Remove the 7/8 in. plug from the opposite hole and drill two 3/16 in. holes at the marked dimples.
  5. Mount the junction box on the opposite side using the same two screws; use only blunt-tip screws.
  6. Move the plug to the old location and install two 1/4 in. plugs from the parts bag in the empty holes.
  7. Squeeze the door switch retaining arms with a flat screwdriver and pry the door switch out.
  8. Install the door switch in the opposite opening and reconnect the wires.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
