Install solid metal base pan for upflow side return
What is going on
If you're setting up a Rheem 96V/96MDV upflow with a side air return, the solid metal base pan has to go in. Skip it and combustion products can get into the living space, which is a carbon monoxide risk, so don't leave it out. On a bottom return it's the opposite, you must not install the solid pan.
Likely causes
- Not a fault call. Required part for side return upflow installs.
Check in this order
- Take the blower door off first.
- Insert the tab onto the flange and push the panel into place.
- Install the screw in the tab located in the blower compartment.
- Tape all edges of the bottom to cover gaps.
- After installing the bottom plate, seal all seams tight with metal tape.
- Double check it is a side return install. For bottom return, leave the solid pan out.
