Field conversion: horizontal right with vertical vent
What is going on
Field conversion to horizontal right airflow with a vertical vent. Steps 1 and 2 are done with the furnace in as-shipped condition. Parts come from the parts bag and conversion kit RXGY-CK.
Check in this order
- Gather parts from the parts bag and kit RXGY-CK: 1/2 inch drain hose E, 1/2 inch drain hose F, condensate trap gasket, 1/4 inch black vent tube, three #8 x 1/2 inch screws, 2 inch pipe grommet, 2-5/8 inch flush-mount plug, intake coupling and nut, and air diffuser.
- Gather tools electric drill with 1/8 inch bit, pliers, flat-head screwdriver, 5/16 and 1/4 inch hex drivers, and a tubing cutter.
- Step 1a Remove the flue transition, transition coupling and elbow. Removing the inducer coupling with the elbow makes this easier.
- Step 1b Remove the condensate trap and hoses. To remove the trap, take out the two screws and pull it straight out.
- Step 2a Relocate the 1/2 inch yellow vinyl cap on the inducer coupling.
- Step 2b Remove the 3-3/8 inch flush-mount plug from the jacket side and discard it.
- Step 2c Keep the IDB coupling and the transition coupling. If the IDB coupling is removed, it must go back in the correct direction (see the related tip).
- Step 2d Install the 2-5/8 inch flush-mount plug in the top plate.
- Step 3a Relocate the 0.403 inch drain plug in the collector box.
- Step 3b Relocate the 1/4 inch yellow vinyl cap on the collector box vent tap.
- Step 4a Remove the rectangle flush-mount plug from the jacket side and discard it.
- Step 4b Pre-drill three 1/8 inch holes as shown for the condensate trap.
- Step 4c Install the 2 inch pipe grommet in the jacket.
- Step 4d Slide the air diffuser into the intake coupling, then install the coupling into the jacket. Seat the air diffuser fully.
- Step 5a Remove the metal bracket and the 0.403 inch drain plug, and discard them.
- Step 5b Remove hose A and discard it.
- Step 5c Install the 0.559 inch condensate drain plug and condensate trap gasket as shown.
- Step 5d Install the condensate trap in the jacket with three screws. The trap may be installed later, after the unit is rotated, to avoid damage.
- Run the review checklist before startup (see the related tip).
