Direct vent: standard horizontal termination (Options 2 and 3)
What is going on
Standard horizontal termination. Intake and exhaust are sized and spaced as shown. The trap is only needed for Option B. Couplings are required on the exterior and optional on the interior.
Check in this order
- Keep the intake about 12 in from the wall and the exhaust about 6 in minimum from the wall, per the figure.
- Keep the intake to exhaust spacing at 3 in minimum and 5 in maximum.
- Limit 2 in pipe inside the wall to 18 in maximum when using 3 in vent.
- Support horizontal pipe every 4 ft.
- Reduce 3 in pipe to 2 in before the outside wall penetration.
- Use couplings on the exterior of the wall.
- Install the wind deflector vane in a vertical 2 in PVC coupling using PVC solvent.
- Install a trap in the combustion air pipe for Option B (RXGY-D05 for 2 in pipe, RXGY-D06 for 3 in pipe).
- Insulate piping outside the structure as required for local climate.
- Do not use screens on the intake or exhaust.
- Do not install tees at the termination.
- Keep at least 12 in above grade or expected snow level (U.S.).

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
