Clearing lockouts and hard lockout conditions

96V

What is going on

All lockouts clear immediately once the original fault is cleared and power is cycled off and on. Soft lockouts also clear if the heat call is cycled off for more than 2 seconds but less than 20 seconds. Hard lockout occurs in three cases: an unspecified internal fault (code 93, cannot be reset by cycling the heat call); unexpected voltage on the gas valve contacts that does not clear by cycling the inducer (code 93, cannot be reset by cycling the heat call); and a dead blower declared four times in one heat call (code 61, can be reset by cycling the heat call). The control does not start a heat cycle during any lockout.

Check in this order

  1. Clear the original fault before resetting.
  2. Cycle power off and on to clear a lockout.
  3. For soft lockouts, cycle the heat call off for more than 2 seconds and less than 20 seconds.
  4. For hard lockout code 93, replace the furnace control and move the memory card to the new board.
  5. For hard lockout code 61, repair the blower or motor, then cycle the heat call or power.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
