11 Failed ignition
What the control is telling you
No flame proven during the ignition trial. The system tries 4 times, then goes into a 1-hour lockout (10 and 11 alternate on 802P/R95P). 802P: valve opens on low fire for 8 seconds, spark up to 7 seconds, flame must prove for 1 second. R95P/RGPE: valve powered about 7 seconds per trial. RGPE/RGLE: not stored back-to-back in the fault buffer.
Applies to: 802P/80MDP (802PA050-150); R95P (R95PA040-115); RGPE/RGLE 2-stage 80+
Likely causes
- No gas, manual valve switch off, or low gas pressure
- Spark igniter not sparking, cracked, disconnected or misplaced
- Dirty flame sensor or poor sensor wiring
- L1 and neutral reversed
- Poor ground
- Blocked orifice / gas restriction
- R95P: pressure switch or limit opening during the trial
Test and repair steps
- Warning: Verify gas valve inlet and outlet (manifold) pressure with a manometer.
- Confirm the gas valve switch is ON and gas is supplied.
- Watch for spark check igniter wires, connection, cracks and placement/alignment.
- Clean the flame sensor rod (fine steel wool, Scotch-Brite or sandpaper) and check its wire to the IFC (RGPE/RGLE: J1 pin 1).
- Verify L1/neutral polarity at the IFC and junction box and check ground.
- Check orifices and burner alignment; confirm flame carries across all burners.
- R95P check 24 V at the gas valve during the trial and wiring IFC to valve; on 90+ check the aux limit and (upflow) drain pressure switch are closed.
- R95P if a pressure switch or limit opened during the trial, troubleshoot that circuit (57 / 22).
