E275 Soft lockout - flame out of sequence, now gone

Critical severity EL296UHVLennox SL280UHVLennox ML180UHELennox SL297NV

What the control is telling you

Flame was sensed out of sequence and is now gone. 1-hour soft lockout.

Applies to: EL296UHV(X) series furnaces (integrated control 103130-XX and 107045-XX)

Likely causes

  • Gas valve leaking through

Test and repair steps

  1. Warning: Shut off gas to the furnace (gas valve switch OFF, by hand only - never use tools; replace the valve if the switch will not move).
  2. With no call for heat, confirm whether flame is present or flame current is still being sensed.
  3. Check if the gas valve is being energized without demand (shorted wiring or control relay).
  4. If the valve leaks through while de-energized, replace it with the same type of valve; do not attempt repair.
  5. After repair, restore gas, leak-check connections with a gas leak detector (no open flame) and run a full heat cycle.
  6. Code clears once the fault is gone / flame is proven stable.
