F09 No flame on ignition

Critical severity Elite EL

What the control is telling you

Four ignition tries in one heat call all failed to establish flame. Lockout with pump on. Control: FAULT light red steady and LOCKOUT shown on lower line; reset with RESET held over 1 second after repair.

Applies to: EL-80, EL-110, EL-150, EL-220, EL-299, EL-399 (N/LP)

Likely causes

  • No spark (spark electrode gap wrong or corroded)
  • No gas or low gas pressure, air in gas line
  • Flame rectifier probe dirty or faulty
  • Blocked flue or condensate

Test and repair steps

  1. Watch the igniter through the sight window
  2. If no spark, check the spark electrode gap: 0.196 in. (5.0 mm +/- 1 mm)
  3. Clean corrosion from the spark electrode and the flame rectifier probe
  4. If there is spark but no flame, check the gas supply to the boiler
  5. If there is flame, check the flame sensor
  6. Check for flue blockage or condensate blockage
