Compressor protections and lockouts

Multi21+

What happens, in order

  1. Overload (coil temperature) and discharge temperature protections: frequency is raised when cool, held or reduced when warm, and the compressor stops when too hot
  2. If the same protection appears 6 times in a row, the compressor will not restart until power is cut and restored; the count clears if the compressor ran more than 7 minutes
  3. High-pressure switch open for 3 s compressor stops and a high-pressure signal goes to the indoor units; once the switch has been closed 6 s, restart still needs a power cycle
  4. Compressor overload switch trips indoor unit shows the fault and compressor stops; if the compressor has been off more than 3 minutes and the switch resets, it restarts automatically
  5. If the overload switch trips more than 6 times (count clears after 30 minutes of running), automatic restart is blocked until power is cycled
  6. On power-up, an indoor unit that has not communicated within 3 minutes is treated as not installed
