Upflow horizontal, right side down - drain setup
What is going on
Drain trap and hose relocation for an upflow furnace laid on its right side. Needs at least 5.5 in clearance under the trap.
Check in this order
- Keep at least 5.5 in clearance beneath the drain trap.
- Remove the clamps from both drain hose ends.
- Remove the two trap screws from the blower deck, then remove the trap and both hoses.
- Move the two plugs from the right cabinet side to the blower deck.
- Drain the vent elbow cut 1 in from the 45 degree bend of hose #2 and discard the bend. Feed hose #2 through the top cabinet drain hole and clamp it to the elbow barb with a red clamp.
- Drain the collector box feed the non-grommet end of hose #11 through the bottom cabinet drain hole and clamp it to the collector box with a silver clamp.
- Clamp hoses to the trap with silver clamps. The trap outlet faces the furnace front. Secure the trap with the two removed screws through the large holes in the top tabs.
- Connect the field drain to the trap outlet per the field drain section.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
