Upflow horizontal, left side down - drain setup

34.5 in Chassis ACVC96/AMVC96/GCVC96/GMVC96

What is going on

Drain trap and hose relocation for an upflow furnace laid on its left side. Needs at least 5.5 in clearance under the trap. Hose cut lengths depend on cabinet width.

Check in this order

  1. Keep at least 5.5 in clearance beneath the drain trap.
  2. Remove the clamps from the two trap drain tubes.
  3. Remove the two trap screws from the blower deck, then remove the trap and hoses.
  4. Move the two plugs from the left cabinet side to the blower deck.
  5. Drain the vent elbow on hose #6, measured from the non-grommet end, cut off 1.5 in for a D width, 5 in for a C width, or 8.5 in for a B width.
  6. Fit hose #6 to the vent-drain elbow side port with a silver clamp. Move the rubber plug to the unused elbow drip port to seal it; a blunt tool such as a 3/16 in Allen wrench in the plug center helps it seat.
  7. Cut hose #5 3 in from the non-grommet end and discard that section. Feed the cut end through the lower cabinet drain hole.
  8. Join hose #6 and hose #5 with a 100 degree elbow and two red clamps.
  9. Drain the collector box move the cap from the left collector port (bottom) to the right (top) port. Feed the non-grommet end of hose #11 through the upper cabinet drain hole and clamp it to the collector box with a silver clamp.
  10. Clamp hoses to the trap with silver clamps. The trap outlet faces the furnace front. Secure the trap with the two removed screws through the large holes in the top tabs.
  11. Connect the field drain to the trap outlet per the field drain section.
