EL296UHV: what the display and the diagnostic button are telling you
What is going on
The furnace control has a seven-segment display and one push button. Normal operation, stored errors, flame current and the unit size are all read from it.
Check in this order
- Watch the display with the furnace idle a blinking dot means idle. C, H, d, h or dF followed by a number means a call is running.
- To read stored errors, hold the button until E shows and release. The last 10 codes scroll. Choose c and press again while it flashes to clear them.
- To check the flame sensor, hold until F shows and release. Normal is 2.6 microamps or more. 2.5 or less is low. Drop out is 1.1.
- Hold until three bars show to go back to normal. Menus time out on their own.

Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
