Counterflow vertical - drain exit side
What is going on
Counterflow furnace installed vertically. Left side is preferred. Drain out the right side requires moving the trap outside the cabinet.
Check in this order
- For a left side drain, keep the trap and factory hoses as shipped.
- For a left side drain, install a field rubber coupling with a 1 1/4 in clamp so the trap can be removed for cleaning, or glue a PVC fitting to the trap outlet.
- For a right side drain, remove the hose clamps and hoses, then remove the trap.
- Drain the vent elbow insert the non-grommet end of hose #10 into the back cabinet drain hole. Put a coupling in the vent-drain elbow drip leg with a silver clamp, then clamp hose #10 to the elbow barb with a silver clamp.
- Drain the collector box insert the non-grommet end of hose #9 into the front cabinet drain hole and clamp it to the collector drain port with a silver clamp.
- Connect the trap inlets to the hoses with silver clamps.
- Line up the trap mounting holes with the pre-drilled holes and secure with the two screws removed earlier.
- Connect the field drain to the trap outlet per the field drain section.

Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
