Venturi / air shutter adjustment

What is going on

Set flame colour; may need adjusting for fuel, vent configuration and altitude.

Likely causes

  • Air shutter not set for vent length/fuel/altitude

Check in this order

  1. Loosen the securing screw and rotate the venturi to open or close.
  2. Closing gives a yellower flame but can cause carboning; opening gives a bluer flame but can lift flames off the ports.
  3. Wait 15-30 minutes for the final flame colour before judging.
  4. GD70 factory set for the longest horizontal run (20 ft); shorter runs need adjustment (propane can go as low as 1/4" open). Access by removing the two cover screws on the air housing without damaging the gasket. WARNING: qualified gas installer only.

Applies to: Napoleon gas fireplaces - direct vent, natural vent and vent-free (general service manual); GD70 note from GD70 manual
