Napoleon · Gas fireplace troubleshooting
Pilot lit, no gas to main burner (knob on HI, switch/thermostat ON)
What is going on
Pilot is burning and controls are calling but the main burner will not come on.
Likely causes
- Defective thermostat or wall switch
- Defective switch wiring
- Plugged main burner orifice
- Faulty valve
Check in this order
- Jumper across the wall switch terminals - if the burner lights, replace the switch/thermostat.
- Disconnect the switch wires at the valve and jumper valve terminals 1 & 3 - if the burner lights, the field wires are bad; repair or replace them.
- If the burner still does not light with the jumper, check and clear the main burner orifice.
- If the orifice is clear, replace the gas valve.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
