Napoleon · Gas fireplace troubleshooting
Pilot goes out while standing (main burner OFF)
What is going on
Pilot drops out on its own while the main burner is off, often when another appliance or the burner fires - suspect undersized gas piping.
Likely causes
- Gas supply piping undersized
Check in this order
- Turn on all gas appliances in the house and watch the pilot - fluttering, shrinking or going out (especially when the main burner lights) points to supply starvation.
- Monitor the appliance supply working pressure while everything runs (spec NG 7" w.c. min 4.5"; propane 13" w.c. min 11").
- Check supply pipe sizing against code and correct any undersized piping.

Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
