Napoleon · Gas fireplace troubleshooting

Main burner low flame

What is going on

Burner fires but flame is smaller than it should be.

Likely causes

  • Modulating remote without power (defaults to low)
  • Hi-lo knob turned low
  • Low inlet/outlet pressure
  • Wrong or blocked orifice
  • Venturi misadjusted
  • Blocked manifold tube

Check in this order

  1. If there is a modulating remote, check it has power - without power it defaults to low flame.
  2. Turn the hi-lo knob to high.
  3. Test inlet and outlet pressures.
  4. Confirm the main orifice size meets spec and is clean.
  5. Check and adjust the venturi/air shutter.
  6. Remove and clean the manifold tube.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
