Napoleon · Gas fireplace troubleshooting
Main burner goes out and pilot goes out
What is going on
Both burner and pilot extinguish during operation. Check venting first, then follow the 'main burner goes out; pilot stays on' checks.
Likely causes
- Blocked vent
- Flue gases recirculating (poor joint seals / installation)
- 4" flex vent disconnected from the fireplace
Check in this order
- Warning: treat as a venting fault - do not keep relighting until the vent is checked.
- Check the vent system for blockage.
- Check all vent joint seals and the installation for recirculation of exhaust into the intake.
- Make sure the 4" flexible vent is still attached to the fireplace; re-attach if disconnected.
- Then run the 'Main burner goes out; pilot stays on' checks.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
