E7.1 1st stage gas valve (MVL) powered with no call

Critical severity Trane S8V2Trane S8B1Trane S8X1Trane S8X2

What the control is telling you

24 V is present on the gas valve circuit when the control is not asking for heat - an external wiring fault or failed board.

Applies to: Trane S8V2 (80%, 2-stage, variable speed, Link) and S8B1 / S8X1 / S8X2 (80%, 1- and 2-stage)

Likely causes

  • Miswired valve circuit or back-feed from field wiring
  • Failed IFC relay

Test and repair steps

  1. Turn the thermostat to OFF.
  2. Measure 24 VAC from the red lead at the gas valve to chassis ground.
  3. If voltage is present, find and correct the wiring fault, then cycle power.
  4. If the code persists with correct wiring, replace the IFC.
