Trane · Furnace
E6.1 120 V polarity reversed
What the control is telling you
The control sees hot and neutral swapped on the incoming supply. The IFC is polarity sensitive: the hot leg must go to the black lead.
Applies to: Trane S8V2 (80%, 2-stage, variable speed, Link) and S8B1 / S8X1 / S8X2 (80%, 1- and 2-stage)
Likely causes
- Line and neutral swapped at the junction box or panel
Test and repair steps
- Power off at the disconnect.
- Measure from the incoming white (neutral) to green ground: about 120 V means hot and neutral are reversed.
- Swap the 120 VAC leads so the hot goes to the black furnace lead.
- Restore power and confirm the code clears.
