E11 Gas valve relay / valve circuit fault

High severity Trane S8V2Trane S8B1Trane S8X1Trane S8X2

What the control is telling you

The IFC detected a fault in its gas valve relays or valve outputs: 1st stage not powered when it should be, 2nd stage on without a request or not powered when needed, or a valve relay stuck closed (2nd stage items only on 2-stage models; S8V2 also lists HLO not powered when it should be).

Applies to: Trane S8V2 (80%, 2-stage, variable speed, Link) and S8B1 / S8X1 / S8X2 (80%, 1- and 2-stage)

Likely causes

  • Failed gas valve relay on IFC
  • Wiring fault to the gas valve

Test and repair steps

  1. Check all gas valve wiring against the diagram.
  2. Cycle power and run heat to see if the fault returns.
  3. If wiring is correct and it repeats, replace the IFC.
