E17 Blower motor communication error
What the control is telling you
The IFC is not talking to the serial variable speed blower motor, most often due to loose low-voltage harness connections.
Applies to: Trane S8V2 only
Likely causes
- Loose or damaged serial motor wires
- No 120 VAC at the motor power plug
- Failed motor
- Failed IFC
Test and repair steps
- Check the serial motor wires are firmly seated at both the motor and the IFC.
- Measure 120 VAC at the motor power plug (5-pin connector, terminals 4 and 5); repair wiring if missing.
- Unplug the serial harness at the IFC and apply 24 VAC to wires 3 (black, GND) and 4 (white, TX).
- If the motor runs, replace the IFC; if it does not, replace the motor.
