E12 Control fuse open

Medium severity Trane S8V2Trane S8B1Trane S8X1Trane S8X2

What the control is telling you

The 5 A low-voltage fuse on the IFC is blown or not seated.

Applies to: Trane S8V2 (80%, 2-stage, variable speed, Link) and S8B1 / S8X1 / S8X2 (80%, 1- and 2-stage)

Likely causes

  • Short in thermostat or accessory wiring
  • Accessory drawing too much current
  • Fuse loose

Test and repair steps

  1. Apply power and confirm 24 VAC at TH-TR.
  2. Check the fuse is fully seated; measure across the fuse terminals - 24 VAC across it means it is open.
  3. Before replacing, look for shorts in field wiring.
  4. Run the unit and clamp the transformer red 24 VAC wire: it must be under 5 A.
  5. Turn on each accessory in turn and measure; correct wiring on any accessory that pushes the draw over the fuse rating.
  6. If 24 VAC is not present at all, check wiring then replace the IFC.
