What the control is telling you

The indoor and outdoor boards cannot talk to each other. In cooling the compressor stops; in heating the whole unit stops. On the Multi21+ it can show on only some heads.

Likely causes

  • Interconnect wiring wrong, loose or damaged
  • Wires in the electrical box loose
  • Mismatched indoor/outdoor boards or display board
  • Indoor board communication circuit failed
  • Outdoor board (AP1) communication circuit failed

Test and repair steps

  1. Warning: Kill power before working on terminals.
  2. Check the interconnect wiring terminal by terminal against the wiring diagram and tighten every screw.
  3. Inspect the cable for damage and replace it if needed.
  4. Confirm the indoor and outdoor units (and display board) are a matching combination.
  5. Use a communication checker if available to find which side has failed.
  6. Replace the indoor board or outdoor board (AP1) on the side that fails.
