F0 Low refrigerant / refrigerant blocked protection

High severity Gree SapphireGree Livo GEN4Gree Multi21+

What the control is telling you

The control sees signs of a refrigerant shortage or blockage and shuts the unit down. Multi21+ lists it as not used on residential outdoor units.

Applies to: Gree Sapphire 9-24k (SAP..HP230V1A), Livo GEN4 30-36k (4LIV..HP230V1A), Multi21+ 18-24k multi-zone (MULTI..HP230V1CO)

Likely causes

  • Refrigerant leak or low charge
  • Service valves not fully open
  • Indoor coil or outdoor coil sensor loose
  • Capillary or EEV blocked
  • Cooling in very humid conditions (small temperature split)
  • Dirty coils or blocked airflow

Test and repair steps

  1. Make sure both service valves are fully open.
  2. Check the indoor coil and outdoor coil sensors are seated and reading right.
  3. Leak-check the system and charge to the nameplate amount after repair.
  4. Clean the coils and clear the air inlet and outlet.
  5. Look for restrictions (debris, ice, oil, EEV/capillary) and clear them.
  6. If the code persists with a good charge, replace the board.
