Gree · Heat pump
E8 High temperature / overload protection
What the control is telling you
The coil temperature (outdoor coil in cooling, indoor coil in heating) got too high, so the compressor stops.
Applies to: Gree Sapphire 9-24k (SAP..HP230V1A), Livo GEN4 30-36k (4LIV..HP230V1A), Vireo GEN3 9-24k (3VIR..HP115/230V1A), Multi21+ 18-24k multi-zone (MULTI..HP230V1CO)
Likely causes
- Outdoor temperature above the operating range (above 53°C/127°F)
- Poor heat rejection: dirty coil or blocked airflow
- Indoor or outdoor fan not running properly
- Fan capacitor or fan motor failed
- Board fault
Test and repair steps
- Check the outdoor ambient; above 53°C the trip is normal protection.
- Clean the coils and clear the space around the units.
- Check that both fans run; check fan wiring connections.
- Test the fan capacitor and motor (where used) and replace as needed.
- If all of the above check good, replace the board.
