Gree · Heat pump
E4 Compressor discharge temperature too high
What the control is telling you
The discharge line got too hot (GMV6 trips above 244°F), so the compressor is stopped.
Applies to: Gree Sapphire 9-24k (SAP..HP230V1A), Livo GEN4 30-36k (4LIV..HP230V1A), Vireo GEN3 9-24k (3VIR..HP115/230V1A), Multi21+ 18-24k multi-zone (MULTI..HP230V1CO), GMV6 Ultra Heat Mini VRF 36-60k (GMV-V..WL/C-T(U))
Likely causes
- Low refrigerant charge or leak
- EEV coil loose or valve not opening
- Dirty coils or poor airflow at either unit
- Service valves partly closed or restriction (strainer, capillary)
- Discharge sensor bad or not seated on the pipe
- Overload/high load running for a long time
Test and repair steps
- Wait about 30 min after shutdown, then check that the compressor overload (SAT/OVC) wire is connected; its resistance should be under 1 ohm when cool.
- Check the EEV coil plug and coil; replace the coil if open.
- Leak-check and verify the charge; repair and recharge to the nameplate amount.
- Clean coils and filters and clear the outdoor unit surroundings.
- Check that the discharge sensor is in its well and reads correctly against the chart.
- If everything checks good and the code returns, replace the outdoor board (AP1).
