Glow Brand · Boiler
Loc 1 Ignition failed three times in a row
What the control is telling you
Three ignition attempts in one demand did not produce a stable flame, so the boiler is in a hard lockout. Power cycling will not clear it; hold RESET on the display.
Applies to: B85, B120, B160 (NG and LP)
Likely causes
- Reversed line/neutral on a new install (burner lights then drops out)
- Blocked intake or exhaust vent
- Gas regulator closer than 6 ft upstream of the gas valve
- Condensate trap not draining
- Static or dynamic gas pressure too low (undersized line, regulator)
- Gas valve not getting 120 V during ignition, or valve not opening
- Ionization electrode or cable dirty/damaged (flame signal under 1.5 uA)
- Dirty combustion chamber
- Ignition electrode not arcing, wrong gap (should be 4.5 mm)
- Failed ICB
Test and repair steps
- On a new install, if the burner lights and immediately dies, check the polarity of the 120 VAC supply.
- Look for vent blockage and make sure the condensate trap drains.
- Check the gas regulator is at least 6 ft upstream of the gas valve.
- Measure static gas pressure; if low, fix the supply line or regulator.
- Measure gas pressure while the valve opens during ignition. If it falls below 3.5 in. w.c., the supply is too weak. If it does not move at all, check for 120 V at the valve during ignition: no power = wiring/control, power present = replace the gas valve.
- If the burner lights but goes out read the flame current at parameter 1.008 (needs more than 1.5 uA); clean or replace the ionization electrode and cable; clean the combustion chamber and adjust the throttle with an analyzer until CO2 is in range.
- If the burner never lights check the ignition electrode and cable, confirm it arcs (stay clear of it with power on) and set the gap to 4.5 mm.
- Replace the ICB if everything else checks out.
- Once it runs, confirm CO2 at minimum and maximum fire (Table 10.1).

Maintenance intervals · Glow B85/B120/B160
| Item | When |
|---|---|
| Annual inspection by a technician | Every year (warranty) |
| Relief valve try-lever test | Annually |
| LWCO test | Annually |
| Condensate trap clean | Annually (14.3) |
| Heat exchanger combustion-side wash | Annually or when combustion drifts (14.4) |
| Burner door silicone gasket | Replace if damaged or after 2 years |
| Service reminder | 2.203 on, interval 2.204 (default 1000 days) |
Operating pressure should sit 5 psi under the relief valve rating (max 25 psig on a 30 psi valve); water never above 180 F.
