Communicating heat pump heat, balance point and auxiliary heat

Goodman ComfortNet communicating heat pump (ASZCGSZCDSZC with AVPTC)

What happens, in order

  1. Control asks the heat pump for outdoor air temperature
  2. Above the balance point the heat pump runs; below it the heat pump is locked out and only electric heat runs (balance point set in the CoolCloud HVAC app or by board buttons)
  3. Low stage request goes to the UC control; fan speed request to the air handler; compressor and fan start at low stage
  4. If low stage cannot keep up, blower goes to high stage speed and the heat pump goes to its high stage solenoid and high condenser fan speed
  5. If still short, auxiliary heat is added and the air handler picks the highest airflow demand
  6. Demand met heat pump stops; air handler drops the heater outputs and keeps the ECM blower until the off delay ends
  7. Control may start directly in high stage

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
