Rinnai · Air handler troubleshooting
Insufficient or no heat
What is going on
The air handler runs but delivers little or no heat from the hydronic coil.
Likely causes
- Dirty air filter
- Clogged hydronic coil
- Air trapped in the heating loop
- Rinnai heater not running or water temperature too low
- Dirty inlet water filter on the Rinnai heater
- Restriction or partly closed valve in the heating loop
Check in this order
- Check the air filter and replace it if dirty.
- Make sure the hydronic coil is not clogged.
- Check for air in the heating loop and purge the loop if needed.
- Confirm the Rinnai heater is running and check the supply water temperature.
- Clean the inlet water filter on the Rinnai heater.
- Check the heating loop for restrictions and make sure all valves are fully open and working.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
