Rapid amber flash Weak flame signal

Medium severity York UTEC IFC furnacesYork White-Rodgers IFC furnacesYork TM9V

What the control is telling you

The LED flashes amber continuously with no pause: flame current has dropped low. On the TM9V the warning starts at 1.5 microamps (normal about 3.7 microamps DC; lockout at 0.1).

Applies to: York/JCI residential gas furnaces: York UTEC IFC furnaces, York White-Rodgers IFC furnaces, York TM9V

Likely causes

  • Dirty or oxidized flame sensor
  • Poor ground path from burner to board
  • Low gas pressure / weak flame on the sensor
  • Cracked sensor insulator

Test and repair steps

  1. Measure flame current at the board test pad - it should be above 1.5 microamps.
  2. Clean the flame sensor rod with fine abrasive pad and refit.
  3. Check burner/ground connection and the sensor wire.
  4. Verify inlet and manifold gas pressure and that the flame fully envelops the sensor.
  5. Replace the sensor if the reading stays low.
