5 red flashes Rollout switch open / limit circuit open over 15 min
What the control is telling you
The limit circuit has been open long enough that the board assumes a manual-reset rollout switch has tripped (White-Rodgers boards also show this for an open fuse). Hard lockout - power must be cycled after repair.
Applies to: York/JCI residential gas furnaces: York UTEC IFC furnaces, York White-Rodgers IFC furnaces, York TM9V
Likely causes
- Blocked heat exchanger or vent causing flame rollout
- Inducer failure
- Cracked primary heat exchanger
- Burner problem
- Lack of combustion air
Test and repair steps
- Warning: A tripped rollout means flames left the burner area - find the cause before resetting.
- Inspect vent and combustion air supply.
- Check inducer operation.
- Inspect burners and the primary heat exchanger for blockage or cracks.
- Reset the rollout switch, then cycle power to clear the lockout and watch a full cycle.
- To read stored codes with no thermostat call active, tap the LAST ERROR button briefly (under 5 s); up to five codes play back newest first. Two green flashes = memory empty. Hold the button 5 s or more to clear (three green flashes confirm).
