P0 Compressor protector open
What the control is telling you
Compressor is off; the control sees no current in either the run or start winding (internal overload open). Clears after one normal cycle or by power cycling the 24 VAC.
Applies to: Communicating 2-stage condensers and heat pumps with the PCBHR104 or PCBHR105 outdoor control (7-segment display): ASXC16/18, GSXC16/18, DSXC16/18, ASZC16/18, GSZC16/18, DSZC16/18
Likely causes
- Compressor internal overload open (hot compressor)
- Open run winding
- Compressor not wired correctly or faulty wiring
- Failed run capacitor or capacitor wiring
Test and repair steps
- Warning: Kill power to the outdoor unit before touching wiring, the compressor terminals or the control.
- If the compressor shell is hot, allow it to cool fully before testing again.
- Check run capacitor and wiring.
- Measure compressor windings and check terminals and wiring to the control.
- Find the cause of overheating (charge, airflow, voltage) before returning to service.
