Goodman · Heat pump
05 Open circuit - compressor off over 4 hours
What the control is telling you
Compressor and outdoor fan have been off for more than 4 hours with both pressure switches closed - the control sees no compressor current.
Applies to: Communicating 2-stage condensers and heat pumps with the PCBHR104 or PCBHR105 outdoor control (7-segment display): ASXC16/18, GSXC16/18, DSXC16/18, ASZC16/18, GSZC16/18, DSZC16/18
Likely causes
- Power disconnected (breaker, fuse, disconnect)
- Compressor internal protector failed open
- Compressor not wired correctly to the control
Test and repair steps
- Warning: Kill power to the outdoor unit before touching wiring, the compressor terminals or the control.
- Check breakers, fuses and the outdoor disconnect.
- Check wiring from the control and contactor to the compressor; repair or correct.
- Check compressor windings; a hot compressor may just be on its internal overload - let it cool and retest; replace if the protector stays open.
- Clears after one normal cycle or by power cycling the 24 VAC.
