Compressor, expansion valve and fan startup/stop rules

What happens, in order

  1. On a cooling or heating call the indoor fan runs for a while before the compressor starts
  2. On first power-up the electronic expansion valve resets (rattling sound is normal); before the compressor starts the valve opens to a set step
  3. After a start the compressor must run for a minimum time; after a stop it must rest several minutes before restart
  4. Outdoor fan speed is stepped from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest) to allow low-ambient cooling and high-ambient heating; it does not run in fan mode
  5. In heating, the 4-way valve energizes a short while after heating starts; when heating stops it stays energized briefly then drops out
