What is going on

Checks the owner can do between annual service visits.

Check in this order

  1. Check the cabinet is closed while the boiler runs and no combustible or flammable materials are stored nearby.
  2. Check the power cord and main power line are connected to the manual switch box inside the boiler.
  3. Check the control panel for power and error codes. Clear any debris from the panel.
  4. Check the CH pressure gauge. Pressure should not exceed 30 psig. Higher readings can mean an expansion tank problem; call a technician.
  5. Check the exhaust vent and intake pipe terminations are clear of debris and obstructions.
  6. Visually inspect the exhaust vent and intake piping for blockage, leakage, damage, and bracing condition.
  7. Check the primary pressure relief valve and discharge pipe for weeping. If it weeps often, the expansion tank may not work properly.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority. HVACopedia is not affiliated with any manufacturer; brand and model names only identify the equipment.
