Program module restore - login password

Restoring non-safety settings from a program module (PIM) needs the password.

Checking spark and gas valve voltage during ignition

What to measure while the control is in its trial for ignition.

  1. Measure 120 VAC from J5-6 to ground for the spark generator
  2. Measure 24 VAC from J5-2 to J4-10 for the gas valve
  3. Look for the arc through the observation port next to the spark electrode in the burner door

The control keeps the 15 most recent lockouts and the 15 most recent alerts. Look there first whenever something seems off.

  1. On the Summary page touch the History button
  2. Read both the lockout log and the alert log before changing anything

Running a pump by hand

Quick way to find out whether the control or the pump is at fault.

  1. Open the pump diagnostic page on the display
  2. Switch the pump on manually
  3. Measure for 120 VAC at the pump terminals on the line voltage strip

Clearing the low water cutoff lockout after filling

Lead-lag cascade setup shortcuts

  1. Give every boiler a different MB2 Modbus address under Configure - System Identification & Access
  2. On one boiler only set Master enable under Configure - Lead Lag Master Configuration
  3. Make the CH and DHW setpoints and outdoor reset changes on the master only
  4. On the boilers that run the CH and DHW pumps tick Use for Lead Lag Master demands under Pump Configuration

Combustion check procedure

Set-up of CO2 and CO after start-up or propane conversion.

  1. Run the boiler at maximum fan speed and hold gas line pressure inside the allowed range
  2. Read CO2 and CO and adjust the throttle screw until both are inside the limits
  3. Drop to minimum fan speed and confirm combustion is still smooth and in range; if not, stop and call NTI

Dry run of the ignition sequence on new plastic vent

Needed when the vent cement has had less than 8 hours to cure.

  1. With power off, glue the vent and air intake and keep the gas valve shut
  2. Pull the cable off the spark ignition transformer (keep 2 in from the spark circuit)
  3. Power up and make a heat call
  4. Let the control run three full ignition trials with pre-purge and post-purge until it locks out; repeat twice more for nine in total
  5. Power off and reconnect the spark cable

Flame failure check at commissioning

Proves the flame safety is working after the first lights.

  1. Light the boiler at least three times in a row
  2. Unplug the single white flame probe wire (leave the orange spark cable alone - about 14,000 V)
  3. Let the boiler cycle: it makes 4 ignition cycles and then shows Hold 110
  4. Reconnect the flame wire, cycle power and confirm normal lighting

Low water cutoff test

Check before leaving the job and each year.

  1. Before filling, power up: green POWER and amber LOW WATER lights should both be on and a burner demand should not fire, showing Lockout 67 ILK OFF
  2. Fill the boiler; the LOW WATER light goes out; clear the lockout and the burner fires
  3. With the burner running, press TEST: the LOW WATER light comes on and the burner shuts off with Lockout 67
  4. Once a year repeat the TEST step; every 5 years pull the cutoff and clean the wetted surfaces
