Clean the condensate trap
What is going on
Clean the siphon cap, cone and ball. If the boiler has a condensate neutralizer kit, check it at the same time.
Check in this order
- Remove the condensate drain hose from the bottom of the boiler.
- From below the boiler, remove the siphon cap retaining clip.
- Depress the two lateral hinges on the siphon cap (use a tool if needed) and remove the cap.
- Remove the cone and the ball.
- Clean each part. Do not use solvents.
- Confirm all parts are present. If any part is missing, do not operate the boiler. Replace the entire condensate trap assembly.
- Refill the trap with clean water and reassemble in reverse order, making sure the siphon cap and clip are secure.
- If a neutralizer is fitted, check it and top up the limestone chips if needed. Chips must be no smaller than 1/2 inch.
- Check condensate piping for sags or leaks and repair before restoring power.
- If the boiler has a condensate pump, confirm it runs properly.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
